Change your life through an apprenticeship

Tracy successfully gained an apprenticeship in Business Administration at Costain after getting help and advice from Careers Wales.

"At Costain, I work on main reception greeting people, answering phones, booking meeting rooms and doing the stationery and stock orders.  I do accounts including raising requisition forms and orders."

After a few months as an Assistant Administrator, Tracy was promoted to an Administrator and she's even had a pay rise.

"I have just completed my NVQ 2 in Business Administration and am going on to do the Level 3."

"I really enjoy my job and the people at Costain are lovely. They are talking with me about my options to progress into either accounts or graphics and even to higher education."

“Right from the start Tracy fitted in well with the team and her hard work and dedication to both her work and her NVQ paid off as she was given a promotion” said Tracy’s line manager at Costain. “This has enabled us to employ a new apprentice and has given Tracy the opportunity to move forward in her career.”

Take the step towards a career change

"I was working as a part time cleaner. I was fed up because I felt that I wasn’t getting anywhere with my life."

Tracy decided to apply online for jobs. She was finding it difficult to find a job that was right for her.

"So my mum suggested that I should visit Careers Wales to see if I could get any advice."

"I'd recommend Careers Wales to anyone looking for a job"

Gain confidence and interview skills

"I popped in to Careers Wales and spoke to a Careers Adviser. They were all lovely and gave me great advice."

At Careers Wales Tracy was shown where to find apprenticeship vacancies and how to apply for them. She found the vacancy for Costain on the Careers Wales Apprenticeship Matching Service.

"Interviews really scared me. I was lacking so much confidence to take that step to go to interviews. Careers Wales also helped me to get the interview skills I needed."

Get that apprenticeship

"I was offered 3 interviews for administration apprenticeships! I had two interviews with Costain and after my second interview they offered me the job and I accepted it."

"I have just bought my own house. If I’d carried on cleaning I wouldn't have had the opportunity to progress like this."

"The help and support I had from Careers Wales gave me the determination and confidence to find the right career path."
